  3. Age Limit – You must be less than 35 years to become eligible for joining the National Security Guard.
  4. Armed Forces – You should have served with at least one of the different Indian Armed Forces such as the Indian Army.
  5. Service Years – The minimum number of service years with the police force is 5 and that with the Indian Army is 3 years to become eligible for the National Security Guard.

Selection Process

The selection process of the National Security Guard includes a number of different steps.   1. Pre-Selection Criteria

The Ministry of Home Affairs has set the pre-selection criteria for the recruitment of commandos in the National Security Guard. The different pre-selection criteria are as follows.

  2. At the time of application, the candidate must be less than the age of 35 years.
  3. The candidate should have served with the Indian Army for at least 3 years and 5 years with the State Police Department.
  4. The service record of the candidate should be exclusively preferred and there must be no red entries or other degrading conducts.
  5. Selection and Initial Qualification Training

During the second phase of the National Security Guard selection process, all candidates are required to take two training courses which include the basic and advanced levels. Being said that, the duration of the basic training course is of 14 months and is provided in the National Security Guard center located in Manesar, Haryana. On the other hand, the advanced training course is offered over the period of 9 months. Because it is an intensive training program, the average dropout rate of the candidate is 70% to 80%.

  1. Advanced National Security Guard Training

Once the candidate completes both the basic and advanced level training, they are required to undergo the advanced National Security Guard training. Some of the different areas under which the training is offered includes –

  2. Unarmed combat and knife combat
  3. Bomb disposal techniques
  4. Reflex and Mirror shooting
  5. Surveillance and intelligence gathering

After the advanced National Security Guard training is completed, candidates are shortlisted based on their performance. These shortlisted candidates receive additional training, before serving for 3 to 5 years after their graduation. After serving with the National Security Guard, candidates return to their parent organization.
